Asia

Davies has been actively involved in Asia for more than 35 years, led by a dedicated team of specialists from its Canadian offices and supplemented as required locally.  We have close relations with experts on the ground throughout the entire region who are able to assist when the need arises.

We provided legal counsel to the Chinese government and other business interests as early as the 1970’s and continue to represent clients on a wide range of legal and commercial matters, including all forms of direct and indirect investment in China, such as joint ventures, wholly-owned foreign enterprises as well as distribution, franchising, technology and intellectual property licensing agreements. A large part of our Asian practice involves advising on inbound direct and indirect investment into the Canadian marketplace, particularly from China.  We provide counsel to governments and public and private corporations in connection with the Canadian economic, investment and regulatory environment,  including  regulatory approvals from the Canadian government for these inbound investments

We maintain excellent relations with Chinese government ministries and agencies, enabling us to represent our clients’ interests in China at the administrative, legal and policy-making levels, both in respect of inbound work to China as well as outbound work to other parts of the world, particularly Canada.

We have recently translated into Chinese our highly respected publication Doing Business in Canada, which is available free of charge to anyone who may be interested in obtaining useful information on business in Canada from both a legal as well as a commercial perspective (also available in English and French)
