Carol Hansell Appointed Chair of American Bar Association Committee on Corporate Governance

December 17, 2007 -  Carol Hansell, senior partner with Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP, has been appointed Chair of the Corporate Governance Committee of the American Bar Association's Business Law Section.  Carol is the first non-US lawyer to be appointed to this leadership position in the ABA.

The Corporate Governance Committee is an important vehicle for the development of governance policy and practices. Its 1200 members have been among the most influential lawyers in establishing governance standards in the United States.  As Chair, Carol will provide leadership in the achievement of the Committee's objectives, which includes legal education, publications, advancement of the law and the profession as well as the attraction and retention of members to the Business Law Section.  Her three-year term as Chair will begin in August 2008 at the close of the ABA 2008 Annual Meeting in New York City.

Carol is an internationally recognized expert in corporate governance.  She advises corporations and individuals both in Canada and abroad on governance and structuring issues relating to significant transactions, strategy, succession planning, board structure and process and corporate organization.  This complements her transaction practice which extends over a variety of corporate mergers and acquisitions, financings and reorganization matters.
