Candice Turner is a partner in the New York tax group. She specializes in international corporate reorganizations, hedge fund offerings, and real estate transfers. Candice has extensive experience in financial products, offerings of stock, debt and hybrid instruments, transactions involving cross-border mergers and acquisitions, and tax controversy and litigation. In addition, Candice has specific expertise in the tax aspects of employee compensation and benefits and in tax controversy and litigation.
Prior to joining Davies, Candice was a trial lawyer for the United States Department of Justice Tax Division, where she successfully represented the government in numerous trials, hearings and other federal tax litigation matters.
Representative Work
- Represented AbitibiBowater Inc. when Catalyst Paper Corp. acquired a recycled newsprint mill in Snowflake, Ariz., for US$161 million from a subsidiary of AbitibiBowater Inc., financed partly by a proposed CAN$125 million rights offering.
- Represented the agency syndicate led by Scotia Capital Inc. and RBC Dominion Securities Inc. in the completion of a $1.2 billion debenture offering by Manulife Financial.
- Represented a syndicate of underwriters in connection with a $5.5 billion offering by Canada Housing Trust No. 1 of bonds guaranteed by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
- Represented Tim Horton's Inc. as special counsel in its $783 million initial public offering in Canada and the United States. Davies provided corporate finance and tax advice.
