Rita Lc de Santis is a partner specializing in international law, mergers and acquisitions, real estate law and project financing.

She has assisted companies and government and quasi-government entities in projects as varied as setting up telecom joint ventures in China, investing in real estate in Poland, acquiring newspapers in Canada and financings in the U.S. She has also accompanied clients on trade missions to Africa and advised the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank with respect to the development of a mortgage facilities system in Palestine (a project which involved the Palestinian government authorities). Rita was one of the principal lawyers representing Amcor Limited of Australia when it purchased an international plastic containers (PET) and closures business involving 58 subsidiaries in 26 countries from Schmalbach-Lubeca AG of Germany and when it purchased the healthcare flexible packaging operations of Rexam Plc of London, England. Rita also participated in the initial public offering of Alexis Nihon Real Estate Investment Trust and the acquisition by Starwood Capital Group Global LLC of a portfolio of hotel properties in Canada and the United States. She has participated in various acquisitions of shopping centres and development land in the Province of Quebec by First Capital Realty Inc.

Rita is actively involved in the community and sits on several boards of directors, including those of St. Mary's Hospital Center and the Little Italy Community Centre. She is also Vice-Chair of the Executive Committee of Concordia University (Canada). She is Chair of the Bursary Fundraising Campaign for the Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association and is a patron of the arts and of several charities. She is a past board member of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montréal, the Association of Hospitals of the Province of Quebec and the Business Development Bank of Canada, where she chaired the Human Resources Committee and was a member of the Executive Committee. She is also a past member of the Consultative Communications Committee of Hydro-Québec, a power company wholly owned by the Quebec government. Since October 2007, Rita is also member of the board of Invest Québec.

Rita has been recognized in the Canadian Legal LEXPERT Directory as a lawyer whose services are repeatedly recommended in the areas of property development and corporate mid market. She has received one of the highest ratings given by Martindale-Hubbell.

Rita completed an Honours Biochemistry program at McGill University and was admitted to the Ph.D. program in Biochemistry at the University of Toronto prior to deciding to pursue a career in law instead. She graduated from the Faculty of Law of McGill University in 1981 (University Scholar) and became a partner in 1989.

Born in Italy, Rita is fluent in Italian, English and French.
