Values and Approach

The inspiration and values that led to the creation of the legacy firms, Davies, Ward & Beck in Toronto and Phillips & Vineberg in Montréal, and New York, were re articulated and committed to at the time of their merger and infuse every aspect of our practice every day. They form an important part of the training received by each new lawyer and staff member.
  • Each person is committed to being an excellent lawyer, acting as a professional, and to ensuring that all others in the firm achieve their maximum potential.
  • Our clients are firm clients; we must ensure that the firm's resources are made available to them in a manner to ensure the most timely, innovative and cost-effective solutions.
  • We believe that high-quality work combined with high levels of service are the best and most important ways to attract and retain clients. And that quality and service must be delivered to consistently high standards as we are only as good as our weakest link.
  • We approach legal issues in the context of our clients' business objectives.
  • Internal relationships are dependent on trust, mutual respect and reliance on the proposition that each individual will do his or her best to advance the interests of our clients and the firm as a whole.
  • We strive to be at the cutting edge of the profession, taking on the most challenging work. Our job is not to tell a client something can't be done, but to figure out how to do it.
  • Success is the pride of being on a winning team, not glory derived from individual competition.
  • Lawyers must be broadly trained in order to provide their clients with perspective and efficient service.
  • Ethics, integrity and professionalism are critical to all aspects of our practice and are paramount values.
